Why this matters in India specifically
Meta published IPSOS-commissioned research in June 2026, surveying more than 4,000 respondents across 23 Indian cities including metros, tier 2 and 3 towns and rural areas. It reported that 97% of surveyed users watch video on Meta platforms daily, and that daily engagement is now almost identical in urban India (98%) and rural India (94%).
On commerce specifically, the study reported Reels contributing to 81% product discovery, 66% consideration and 47% purchase influence among those surveyed. Among Gen Z, 89% engage with Reels daily.
The problem with most branded Reels
Most businesses make one of three: the product Reel, the trend Reel, or the talking-head Reel. None is inherently bad. The problem is that none of them has a job. A Reel should be built to do something — introduce a product, answer an objection, show how something is made, demonstrate expertise, or drive a specific next step.
Five Reels worth making
The product-in-use Reel
Not the product. What happens when someone uses it. Product, person, context, result — so the viewer understands where it fits in their life.
The detail Reel
Texture, finish, movement, scale, craftsmanship, packaging. Everything a photograph flattens. This is where perceived value is built, particularly for anything visual.
The problem-solution Reel
Open with the customer’s problem, then introduce the product as the answer. The product becomes the solution rather than the subject.
The proof Reel
Behind the scenes, process, materials, production. Real proof outperforms claims, and it is the format competitors cannot copy.
The founder Reel
Why the product exists, what the brand believes, what you got wrong on the way. Useful, not motivational.
The first three seconds still decide everything
"Hi guys, today we are going to talk about" is a lost viewer. "This is why your product looks cheap online" is not. The hook creates curiosity; the rest of the Reel has to earn the attention it borrowed.
Don’t make every Reel sell
If every post says buy now, limited stock, DM us — the audience learns to scroll past you. A working mix has discovery content, consideration content, trust content and conversion content. Only one of those four asks for anything.
And stop reporting views without context
A Reel is not successful because people watched it. It is successful when the attention moved someone.
Half a million views sounds impressive. Did profile visits rise? Did the right people follow? Did enquiries increase? Views are a useful number, not a report.

Common questions
Are Instagram Reels good for businesses?
Yes, when connected to a wider content strategy. Reels can support awareness, discovery, consideration and conversion — but not all at once, and not without a plan.
How often should a business post Reels?
There is no universal number. Two a week done properly beats five you cannot sustain past month two.
Should businesses boost every Reel?
No. Paid promotion cannot rescue weak creative — it just buys more people the chance to see the problem.
Reels people stop for, built around what the business needs.
Strategy, shooting, editing and publishing handled together rather than in four separate conversations.
